Greek Life @ NJIT

It is important for all of us to realize that for there to be a Greek system in NJIT’s future, it must be a stronger system than is currently the case.  Therefore, the need for change is compelling, the time for that change is now, the commitment of campus leadership to succeed it real, and the alternatives to succeeding now are unacceptable.

We believe there is value in a Greek experience which supports the academic mission of the university, promotes the highest character in individuals, facilitates lifelong friendships, encourages commitment to true community, and demonstrates meaningful, outwardly-directed generosity through service to others.

In recent years, NJIT’s Greek community – mirroring problems at college campuses across the country – has faced major challenges.  Declining membership, low occupancy rates, poor living conditions, alcohol abuse, and decreasing alumni involvement are among the issues facing Greek life now and in the future.

The Greek Village Project will enhance NJIT’s fraternity and sorority chapters by:

  • Significantly improving housing for members
  • Strengthening current active members relationships with alumni/ae
  • Enhancing the University's relationships with Greek life
  • Ensuring a long term future for our Greek organizations

To help us accomplish this, we have formed a Greek Village Task Force.  Read more about the Greek Village Task Force.
